The exchange rate of 1 dollar to ruble as at the time of writing is 77.54. So we should rephrase this to what can 77.54 rubles buy in Russia?
Many people think Russia is too expensive. The cost of living isn’t cheap, and what can 1 dollar buy in Russia today?
To answer this question we don’t need guesswork but a practical one. So to do this I have to take the most projected expensive city in Russia, which is Moscow as a case study for this little research that will answer the questions above.
So this is how I did it; I practically set out with 1 dollar = 77.54 Rubles to find preferences on what one dollar can buy in Russia. And what I found in the stores that you can but for 1 dollar or under 1 dollar is quite a long list. But for the sake of time I will only write about the few items you can get for just 1 dollar
Below is my pick of what 1 dollar can buy in Russia today
Preferential list of what 1 dollar can buy in Russia
Potatoes (Kartoshka) 1 dollar =77.54 ₽
The price of 1 kilogram of potatoes is without a discount card 26.39 ₽ (Ruble). With a discount card, the price for 1 kilogram goes for as low as 14.89 ₽ (Ruble). So if you’re buying with the store’s discount card you’re getting a discount of 11.5 ₽ (Ruble).
In my own case I have the discount card. So with less than 1 dollar=77.55 ₽ I was able to buy 5 Kilograms of Potatoes (Kartoshka) and I got back 3.09 ₽ balance.
On the other hand without discount card the price for 1 kilogram of the same potatoes is 26.39 ₽. So i was able to buy 3kg of Potatoes.
1 kilogram of carrot without discount card sells for 26.39 ₽ , and with discount card it goes for 12.89 ₽.
So again i have the discount card I was able to 6kilogram of carrots at 77.34 ₽ without Discount card I would have gotten 3 kilograms of carrots at just 79.17 ₽.
1 kilogram of cabbage without discount sells for 23.19 ₽/Kg, and with discount it sells for 11.29₽. So i bought 1.902kg of cabbage and I have the store’s discount card so I paid just 21.47 ₽ for almost 2kg of cabbage, instead of 44.11₽ which even less than 50 cents.
So if 1.902kg of cabbage sells for 21.47₽ with discount. Then i would have been able to buy 5.706kg of cabbage at 64.41₽ have a balance of 13.13 ₽.
A small pack of 50 gram of peanuts without the store’s discount card sells for 18.29 ₽ and with discount card it goes for 17.29 ₽. So I have the discount card i picked 4 packets = 200 gram. That costs 69.16 ₽ and I got 8.38 ₽ remaining change.
250 ML of fruit juice cost 67.79 ₽ without discount. But with a discount, it sells for 58.99 ₽. with or without discounts all fell below 1 dollar. So whichever mode of payment you choose to use you’ll get a reasonable amount of change back being that 1 dollar is equal to 77.54 ₽ at the time of writing this article. Although they’re other brands and sizes of fruit juice that could cost a bit lower or a little more.
Some like this one in the photo below.
0.5 liter of bottled water costs without discounts 15.29 ₽, meanwhile, with a discount 0.5 L of bottled water sells for 14.49 ₽. So mathematically, Since I have the discount card and I’m paying through the card I was able to buy 5 pieces of bottle water= 0.5 L* 5=2.5L for 72.45 ₽ which is less than 1 dollar. I got back a 5.09 ₽ balance.
0.5 L of Coca cola Price without card is 70.59 ₽ a little under 1 dollar. But I’m paying with card and discount card so I picked a bottle of 0.5 L of Coca cola for the price of 42.89 ₽.
Pepsi, Fanta, Merinda and Sprite
0.5 L of Pepsi, Fanta, Merinda, and sprite all sells for under 1 dollar as seen in the photo above. Including canned Schweppes also sell for under 1 dollar as seen in the photo below.
