Moscow won the Oscar for the second time in the tourism industry as the best destination in the City category. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced this on Friday.
“For the second year in a row, Moscow receives the main World Travel Awards in the category” Best Travel Destination “in the” City “category! Our beloved city is rightfully the” tourist capital of the world. “It is very pleasant that not only experts, but also tourists voted for Moscow.” , – wrote the mayor on his page in “VKontakte”.
He added that this year the capital’s authorities had ambitious plans for the development of the tourism industry, which will be implemented as soon as possible. βI am sure that when the borders open, we will pleasantly surprise the guests again. There will be a new rise in the industry, – everyone missed travel and good impressions,β Sobyanin wrote.
The mayor clarified that the winners of the grand final this year were announced online: as the winner of last year, Moscow was going to receive guests from all over the world, but the ceremony had to be postponed. “We will cope with the pandemic and look forward to welcoming everyone. I congratulate the Muscovites on success. And thanks to everyone who works in the hospitality industry,” Sobyanin said.

As the press service of Mosturizm previously reported, during the online World Travel Awards 2020, teleconferences will connect viewers with the flagship tourist information center in Zaryadye Park and the Digital Business Space hall, and the winners of the award in 26 key nominations will be announced. During the broadcast, viewers will be presented with videos with views of Red Square, VDNKh, Gorky Park, Vorobyovy Gory, Ostankino TV Tower.
This year Moscow is presented in seven nominations at once. Among them – “The best cultural destination. City”, “The best tourist destination for studying the historical heritage”, “The best destination for festival and event tourism.”
The World Travel Awards was established in 1993. It is considered the most prestigious tourism award. Moscow is hosting the World Travel Awards for the first time. In 2019, the Russian capital won an award in the main category “Best Travel Destination. City”, ahead of such cities as London, New York, Paris, Sydney, Lisbon and others.
